MISSION NAME: Fried Scout (FS)

PROJECT NAME: The Octagon (...but with EIGHT* sides. Maximum effort)

CLASSIFICATION: T/S

QUALIFICATIONS:

GOAL: Construct a functional military memorial

PURPOSE: Honor those who have served, are serving, will serve, and their support structures (family and friends)

CHARACTER BACKSTORY: Due to relocations, the character has transitioned through 4 schools, 2 cub packs, 2 troops and 2 states in 8 years. Character reigns from a family of military/first responder people with somewhat good comedic timing and a high standard for community service. Character hopes to achieve Eagle Rank through hard work and primarily inaccurate Bill Clinton impressions (subject to appropriate scout censorship).

QUOTE: “My great-grandfather, great-uncles, great-aunt, grandfather, uncles, many cousins, and most inspirationally, my father, have served in the military in different branches, capacities, and different lengths of time. I was inspired by their sacrifices and wanted to honor them and provide a space that the community could benefit from and would want to bring their loved ones to enjoy a great park even more. If only there was more Tardis parking - that’d be Shiny!”

DONATE NOW TO THE BEGIN ADVENTURE:

Link to google spreadsheet of supplies that I’ll purchase from raised funds.  I’ll be looking for the best deals and approaching companies like Lowes and Home Depot to see if they will also contribute.  I’m already a few screws loose and this project is going to require a bunch more!

NOTE: There are many other ways to contribute to the adventure.  I am really proud of my book.  It's a riveting and lively overview of the scouting experience with multiple amazing contributors and viewpoints!  Scouting is for every kid (and even fun for the adults, too)!

*:Yes, I am aware that an octagon has eight sides.  It is a silly statement and reference to a move.  Iykyk.

**: Side Quests are not imperative to the main objective and are supplied for comedic reasons.  I don't anticipate of locating D.B. Cooper but I'm down to try if anyone has a helicopter and some time!

NOTE:  Per safe scouting rules, this email is monitored by my parents.

This functional military memorial is Ian’s Eagle Project.

While this project started 3 years ago, Ian has been thinking of project ideas ever since he attended his first Eagle Scout Court of Honor at 6 years old, that of Eagle Scout Kyle Raynor, from Laurel, Maryland.

To raise funds, Ian spent many dedicated hours writing a book called, “Scouting Out Scouts.” It’s a witty guide for both parents and scouts to navigate through the scouting experience, from one Scout’s perspective.

The vision was to bring the community together in a space that could help foster a sense of healing and remembrance.

There are too many generous people to thank individually, so many that stepped up to help transform this idea into reality to honor our troops and their support systems.

Our military members have given so much to protect the freedoms that we enjoy every day, may we strive to honor and be worthy of their sacrifice.

Also, we’d like to thank all the heroes that work every day, your commitment to others is admirable.

From the teachers that shape tomorrow’s leaders and first responders that keep us safe, to farmers that harvest the earth and drivers that deliver.

We hope this memorial will bring a sense of peace, remembrance, and gratitude to all who enter here.
